BW limits
a) There is a limit on the number of colors you can use in your project.
Since the project color palette has 64 colors, this is the maximum number of different colors that you can use in each weaving project. Of course, different projects may use different sets of colors.
b) BW does not limit the number of threads in your project.
If you need to create a project with 15,000 by 15,000 threads, no problems, go ahead!
You will always be able to edit, load, save (WIF) and see the drawdown area of very large weaving projects, but BW will probably run out of memory trying to print or save (BMP) an entire image of it.
Just to give you some numbers, a BMP of a 15,000 by 15,000 project saved at cell size 1, will result in a disk file of approximately 650 Mbytes.
And BW will require almost twice this amount of free memory when building the image.
A 1,000 by 1,000 threads project, for instance, will require 6 Mbytes of memory at cell size 1 (quite reasonable...).
Also, note that the area (and the size...) of an image increases very quickly as the cell size increases.
A BMP saved at cell size 10 will be 100 (10 x 10) times larger than the same project BMP saved at cell size 1.
BW will warn you if the available memory is less than the amount needed to process your request.
The 'not enough memory' message box
If this happens, you can try the following:
- reducing cell size, and/or
- printing (or BMP save) selected areas and/or
- closing other applications to release memory.
c) There are some restrictions about what can be read from external WIF files. Please see WIF files.
